Over the past two weeks we have noticed Madi's appetite dwindling. It got to the point of her taking in about 500 calories a day if we were lucky. On Wednesday we went to see Dr. McDonald (our radiologist) for a follow up appointment and to address our concerns. Madi had stayed home from school Tuesday and Wednesday just not feeling well. Dizzy, no appetite, tired. In talking with the Dr. she explained that Madi has "post radiation syndrome". This is more common in kids and lasts about four weeks. It starts weeks after radiation. I am going to guess it is the body's reaction to getting rid of the poison. We are keeping track of her calories, trying to hit 1600 a day. Whatever she decided sounds good we give her. She is worn out, Saturday she only played a portion of the soccer game. This too shall pass. It is another reminder for me that our new normal is here to stay. The worry is exhausting and takes a toll on all of us. We just take it day by day and celebrate the good moments (getting Madi to eat is a good moment). We are looking into testing her thyroid, cortisol levels, and again sodium. We are all counting down the days to our Make-A-WIsh cruise and cannot wait to enjoy a week of relaxation.
