Last week I got a call from Templeton, Madi had been exposed to chicken pox.
Now, many of us as kids remember chicken pox as a community event, once someone got them we would have our friends come over to expose them and get the whole thing over with together. I am not sure if this happened, but I imagine my Mom and her friends using this as the perfect excuse for an all day happy hour. :)
Today, our kids get the vaccine to prevent chicken pox. Herein lies the problem, Madi has a compromised immune system and because of this her vaccines are not as strong anymore (as I understand it). In addition she is still struggling to fight infections because her body is still recovering.
I called Hotel D and checked with the advice nurse about what we should do, they felt it would be OK, but Madi had to delay her oncology appointment for two weeks to prevent her from exposing the children on 10th floor south from exposure.
Last night, I arrived home from a great night with my dear high school girls. Madi had a fever of 102.8. I gave her Tylenol every four hours and the lowest her fever got was 100.8.
Here is the deal, it is Thanksgiving in two days. Last year we skipped our favorite holiday where the focus is just friends and family due to Madi's diagnoses. We NEED this year... we are thankful and we want to celebrate.
This morning, fever finally broke for now, but I keep looking for spots.
Please, PLEASE God, give us this day...
